Can you get lash extensions with sensitive eyes?

Watery eyes, contacts or past reactions? What to tell your lash artist before a full set, and how Kelsey keeps sensitive clients comfortable.

Client relaxing while lash extensions are applied

A lot of people assume lash extensions are off limits if their eyes are sensitive. Often that is not true. It just means your artist needs to know a little more about you before you start.

Tell your artist up front

  • You wear contacts.
  • Your eyes water easily, or you have had a reaction to a beauty product before.
  • You recently had an eye procedure or an eye infection.
  • You get irritated by strong smells or fumes.

What can help

Lash adhesive gives off fumes for the first few minutes while it sets. Keeping your eyes fully closed during the service is the biggest thing you can do. Your artist can also use less adhesive per lash and work with good airflow.

Some clients ask for a small test with a few lashes first. That lets you see how your eyes feel over a day or two before committing to a full set.

When to skip it

If you have an active eye infection, very red or swollen eyes, or your doctor has told you to avoid anything near your eyes, wait. Lashes will still be here when you are ready. If you are not sure, ask your eye doctor first.
